12 March Independence March Adoption and Mehmet Âkif Ersoy Remembrance Day
12 March Independence March Adoption and Mehmet Âkif Ersoy Remembrance Day Message
We mark with great pride and respect the 105th anniversary of the adoption of our Independence March by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. Expressing most powerfully our esteemed nation’s struggle for independence, its faith and its love of homeland, our Independence March is a symbol of our nation’s shared conscience and unshakeable will.
This unique work, which flowed from the pen of our national poet Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, is one of our most precious legacies, passing our nation’s determination for independence, and its unity and solidarity, from generation to generation.
On this meaningful day, we remember with prayers, gratitude and respect all our heroes who fought for the independence of our homeland, beginning with Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, and we remember with thanks Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, the poet of our Independence March.
